Simplimatic Automation, a worldwide manufacturer and integrator of material handling and automation equipment, is working on the fifth system for the world’s leading provider of satellite-supplied broadband services. Thus far, Simplimatic has delivered and installed four automation systems that flawlessly integrate FANUC robotics, Simplimatic conveyor, and custom automation.
These robotic lines manufacture Outdoor Unit (ODU) and Indoor Unit (IDU) receivers which enable dependable satellite communications for homes and businesses around the globe. The lines successfully automate complicated and repetitive tasks previously performed by hand and have helped to achieve quality consistency and increased manufacturing throughput.
The fifth system, an IDU kitting cell, includes flat belt conveyors, a pallet destacker, hoppers for parts, and a FANUC LR Mate 200iD equipped with a Fanuc iRVision system.
The cell begins with an operator filling the three-basin hopper with an Ethernet cord, a power cord, and a DC power supply. The components then travel under the FANUC robot which is mounted to the top of the kitting cell. Using the iRvision system, the robot quickly detects each element and matches it with a diagrammed cardboard base placed on the conveyor from the pallet destacker. The three-component packs then travel along flat belt conveyor for shrink wrapping and packaging.
